What can you do to help pollinators?
Between 2016 and 2017, the Devon Pollinators Pledge was signed by over 500 Farmers, parishes, schools, local authorities, community groups and organisations. These included Shillingford Organics farm, Exmoor National Park, Culmstock parish council, Blackdown Hills AONB, The Devon Wildlife Trust, Ipplepen primary school and many more!
You can still commit to some actions and provide huge benefits for moths, hoverflies, butterflies, bees and other pollinators in your local area!
- Plant bee-friendly flowers to provide nectar and pollen.
- Create and protect meadows and other areas rich in wild flowers.
- Don’t be too tidy. Leave areas to grow wild and build a ‘bug hotel’ in your garden.
- Think carefully about whether to use pesticides. Only use them if absolutely necessary.
