Naturally Healthy May

Together with many across the country we recognise the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic and how rapidly the situation is developing. In response to the latest government guidance issued on Monday 16 March 2020, and after much consideration, we have made the decision to postpone our Naturally Healthy May campaign month. More details will follow in due course so please keep checking for updates.

This is a challenging time for everyone and at this time the natural world can be more important than ever in helping us to keep fit and healthy.  Currently you can still get out in your local area for exercise, as long as you are not showing any symptoms of coronavirus and providing you follow social distancing and self isolation guidance, keeping 2m away from anyone you meet. Travel should only be for essential purposes so only use the areas around where you live, but take some time to appreciate your local area and wildlife, or garden, as it can have an uplifting effect and benefit our physical and mental health. Important information regarding Public Rights of Way and Coronavirus can be found here.

Devon’s natural environment is amazing and offers a variety of ways for us all to be naturally healthy. Naturally Healthy May is all about getting outdoors and enjoying our beautiful surroundings and feeling happier and healthier for it.

Naturally Healthy May is an ideal opportunity to make some time for yourself and head outside.  There is clear evidence that connecting to nature can offer huge benefits to our physical health, mental health and wellbeing.

So get out and enjoy the (hopefully) warm spring air and share what you are doing on social media using #naturallyhealthy and #DevonCAN, and tag us @Devon_LNP and @activedevon.

LNP partners will be sharing lots of fantastic naturally healthy activities, opportunities and events taking place throughout May.  Find out what is happening on the Active Devon Activity Finder. You can also visit the Natural Devon opportunities page.

If you are organising an event or activity why not upload it to the Active Devon Activity Finder.  This is a great way to promote your organisation and your activities and it is completely free.  Find out more on the Active Devon Naturally Healthy May webpage. Please remember to include ‘Naturally Healthy’ and other relevant key words like environment, wildlife and outdoors to your description to enable the key word search to find them, and please link your activities to the Naturally Healthy campaign.

‘It is not a pill or potion but consider connecting with nature as a prescription. One that works, costs nothing and has no side effects. It is so easy to do, just take that step outside to start with. The most important thing is you enjoy it. Think of it as an opportunity to invest a bit of time in looking after yourself, your family and this place we call home.” Dr James Szymankiewicz, North Devon GP and Chair of the Devon Local Nature Partnership.
