May is Devon’s Naturally Healthy Month!

The Naturally Healthy campaign is all about the power of nature and physical activity to improve our health and wellbeing, and May is a fantastic time to head outside and enjoy some fresh air and Spring weather.

The pandemic has had a huge impact on all our lives, from children and young people to families and adults of all ages. Looking after our physical and mental health is more important than ever and there is clear evidence that being in a natural environment and connecting actively to nature is good for us.

James Szymankiewicz, North Devon GP and member of the DLNP: “Simply being in the natural environment is clinically proven to improve your health and wellbeing.”

In Devon, our amazing natural outdoor spaces offer a huge variety of ways to be naturally healthy, including walking, cycling, wildlife gardening, wild swimming and bird watching. You can find Naturally Healthy activity ideas for May on our activities page and on the Active Devon Activity Finder.

So get out and enjoy the Spring sunshine and share what you are doing on social media using #NaturallyHealthy and #DevonCAN, and tag us @Devon_LNP and @activedevon.

Take Part in the Naturally Healthy Photo Competition

This year Active Devon, on behalf of the Devon Local Nature Partnership, will be hosting a Naturally Healthy Photo Competition. This will be running from the 1st – 31st May 2021 and is open to people of all ages residing in Devon.

The entry process will be done via sharing on social media using the hashtag #NaturallyHealthy or submission by email. Please read the Naturally Healthy May photo competition overview and terms and conditions for full details. For children and young people we will be running a separate Naturally Healthy photo competition through #DevonVirtualGames as part of the Summer series. You can find all the details here, along with the overview and terms and conditions for this separate competition.

If you are organising an event or activity why not upload it to the Active Devon Activity Finder.  This is a great way to promote your organisation and your activities and it is completely free.  Find out more on the Active Devon Naturally Healthy webpage. Please remember to include ‘Naturally Healthy’ and other relevant key words like environment, wildlife and outdoors to your description to enable the key word search to find them, and please link your activities to the Naturally Healthy campaign.

We believe that being active and getting outdoors to connect with nature is more important that ever.  However, safety is paramount and it is crucial that everyone follows current government guidance when leaving home and accessing green spaces.
