May 2019 is Naturally Healthy month!
Devon’s natural environment is amazing and offers a variety of ways for us all to be naturally healthy. Naturally Healthy May is all about getting outdoors and enjoying our beautiful surroundings and feeling happier and healthier for it. As we get older, we often juggle our time with work and family commitments, or we might have health conditions and limited mobility that can put us off getting outdoors. May is an ideal opportunity to make some time for yourself and connect to nature and there is clear evidence that this offers huge benefits to our physical health, mental health and wellbeing. It doesn’t have to be big, small amounts of time doing simple and easy activities in the open air can still have a positive impact on the way we feel.
Across Devon there are a range of organisations who can provide you with information on events happening throughout May including free and easy ways to enjoy being in the fresh air, hearing the birds sing and taking in the amazing scenery and stunning views. Joining in with some new activities outdoors is a great way to see more of your local area, make new friendships, spend quality time with family and destress and energise after work. Activities could include a ramble with friends, having fun paddling in the sea with your grandparents or grandchildren, walking through the park to work, volunteering for a wildlife group, gardening, wild swimming, beach cleaning…there is something for everyone!Share what you’re doing on social media using #naturallyhealthy #DevonCAN @Devon_LNP

The Naturally Healthy website aims to provide a one-stop-shop of naturally healthy activities that are happening across Devon throughout May 2019, so if you are delivering activities please let us know so we can add a link.
Since 2015, the Devon LNP has held a Naturally Healthy month each year to raise awareness of the mental and physical health benefits of being active outdoors.
“It is not a pill or potion but consider connecting with nature as a prescription. One that works, costs nothing and has no side effects. It is so easy to do, just take that step outside to start with. The most important thing is you enjoy it. Think of it as an opportunity to invest a bit of time in looking after yourself, your family and this place we call home.” Dr James Szymankiewicz, North Devon GP and Chair of the Devon Local Nature Partnership.
